A “hunger cue” is an indicator that a person is hungry. They are usually subtle, but can be overt. There are four types of cues which indicate hunger: social, emotional, cognitive, and physiological. Social cues include talking or laughing with friends or family members, or being around others who are eating. Emotional cues involve feeling depressed or having very low energy levels.
